Abu Dhabi made EDE Scanning Technology available to use at shopping malls, a few residential areas, and entry points at various areas in the emirate, as a way to detect the COVID-19 infection.
The EDE scanning system will be used at shopping malls, as part of testing in some residential areas, and at land and air entry points, as part of efforts to enhance precautionary measures and curb the spread of Covid-19 by establishing safe zones.

The way the EDE scanner works is it detects a possible Covid-19 infection through electromagnetic waves, and this happens when the RNA particle of the virus is spotted by the scanner, on a person.
If the scanner shows a positive detection, the person will not be allowed to enter the permisses and will be asked to take a PCR test within the next 24 hours. The results showed an efficiency of 93.5% in identifying the infection.
Mayank Pal, the general manager of Khalidiyah Mall, was one of the people complimenting the new technology and praising its convenience in helping to improve their mall’s operation in following Covid-19 protocols thoroughly. He also informed that two cases of positive infections were detected on the first day, turning away the customers right away and encouraged them to get PCR tests immediately. This further confirms the efficiency of the scanner.
