The National Basketball Association a.k.a NBA will play two preseason games in Abu Dhabi for the very first time and the games will also be the league’s first in the region!
This opportunity came after NBA announced a multi-year partnership with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism on Tuesday – This includes two pre-season games scheduled for October 2022.
The first two games will be held during the NBA preseason in October 2022. The partnership also includes fan events featuring current and former NBA players, Jr. NBA Leagues for school-age players, a series of NBA Fit Clinics and an NBA 2K League exhibition event.

The NBA has not played outside of North America since 2019 due to the pandemic but had stated it was targeting a return to overseas games in 2022. The league has previously held preseason fixtures in the likes of London, Paris and Mexico City in recent years.
The tie-up with the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) Abu Dhabi sees Visit Abu Dhabi, the tourism promotion initiative of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) capital city, serve as the official tourism destination partner of the NBA in China, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.7The partnership will also include a variety of fan events featuring appearances by current and former NBA players, the launch of junior NBA leagues at schools across the UAE, a series of NBA fit clinics promoting health and wellness, and an NBA 2K League exhibition event.
