UAE Might Be Hosting The Next Cop28 & Here’s Why Everyone’s In Favour of It

Several members of the UN’s Asia-Pacific Group have shown their support in the last few days, for the UAE to hold the next climate change summit, Cop28, in 2023!

If you’re wondering what really is COP – it’s basically the United Nation bringing together almost all the countries on earth to attend global climate summits called COPs which stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’.

The number 28 after ‘Cop’ means it will be the 28th annual summit hence why naming it ‘Cop28’

Back to UAE hosting Cop28, along with the UN’s Asia-Pacific group including South Korea showing their support in the next summit being held in the Emirates – the Vice president and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed said the country has won International backing for its bid to stage the event in two years.

UAE deserve this chance as they are currently playing a leading role in the Cop26 summit taking place right now in Glasgow as the delegates pledged the Emirates would be at the forefront of efforts to protect the planet.

The work has already started with UAE announcing their initiative recently to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

If UAE does get selected, the Cop28 will be held in Abu Dhabi in 2023.
