Adjaye Associates, a British-based architecture firm established by the world-famous David Adjaye OBE, were the masterminds behind Africa Institute’s architectural design and urban landscape layout as its having a 31,800 sq m campus extension for the research organisation.

The campus has a dusty, red concrete kind of touch to it and it developed as an enclosed campus with four wings, each containing four and seven storeys between them.

All the wings are linked by a series of open-air courtyards that will provide shade by overhanging each other.

The new campus will be home to a research library, archives and an auditorium, also a series of site-specific installations will be commissioned by artists for its public spaces

The campus is expected to be completed by 2023 and the institute will welcome its inaugural class of MA and PhD students in its African and African diaspora studies program, along with that they will be awarded their degrees in African languages.
