Having a cat can either be a dream or turn into a nightmare! But of course, majority of the times, it’s a dream! Cats are honestly so cute and fun to keep but sometimes you really need some life hacks to just make being a pet owner easier! So scroll down to see some of the life hacks you need to try ASAP.
1. Managing their litter box better
Litter boxes are always the hardest to manage when having a cat. Whether it’s because how bad it looks in the middle of a nice furnished house or how much it smells when they just use it. So check out what you can do to help improve your litter box!
- Baking soda can be added to the litter to help absorb odors and increase the litter’s life. You can also add dry green tea leaves to increase the fragrance of it.
- Is your pooper scooper past its prime? By cutting away the handle and the side of the jug it’s on, you can turn a plastic milk jug into an impromptu scooper.
- Every pet owner’s dream, a self-cleaning litter box which you can find HERE. There’s also many other advanced litter boxes that you can find on amazon so check them out!
2. Keeping them from scratching your mom’s furniture
Every parent’s excuse for not allowing you to have a cat *sigh*.
- If your cat insists on sharpening her claws on the table leg, wrap it with sisal rope to protect the table while also giving the cat a designated scratching area.
- For all of their scratching, sunning, and bird watching fun, line the bottom of a small basket or a shoe box with corrugated cardboard and position it near a sunny window. They would SHRIEK.
- Most importantly, make sure to cut their nails, it really helps!
3. Controlling their never ending hair falls
Fun fact: many people think they’re allergic to the fur of the cats, however it’s actually a protein that’s made in their saliva that causes allergies. When they lick their fur, that protein is spread all over. So, you can actually find cats that don’t produce much of that protein, they’re called hypoallergenic cats! Soooo next time someone says they’re allergic to the fur you can tell them this!
- Attach the firm bristles from two (ideally new) toilet brushes to a board for a hands-free self-grooming and petting station for your cat, according to LovePetsDIY.com. The more your cat uses the brushes for back scratching, the more hair she will collect in the bristles, making cleanup easier.
- Always brush your cat’s fur, the more hair that comes out when you do it, the better!
- Simply massage your hand over the upholstery with a rubber dish glove to loosen hair and wipe it away.
- If cat hair ends up on some furniture, place duct tape to remove the hair right away.
4. Making them have fun
It’s sad when your cat wants to play with you but you’re just too busy or too tired to do anything 🙁 especially if you just have one pet! So here are some hacks that you can implement to make sure that they don’t get bored and start hating their lives.
- To construct a DIY kitty condo, arrange floating shelves on a wall to serve as a stairway, or lay boards on the rungs of an old ladder.
- Fill an old tissue box with empty toilet paper rolls by removing the top. Treats and toys can be hidden inside the rolls, and your cat will enjoy locating and retrieving them.
- Cut holes in the lid of a large plastic food container large enough for your cat to reach through, but not large enough for their head to get caught if they get curious. Fill the container with their favorite toys and snacks, snap on the lid, and sit back and watch them try to get their stuff.
- The cutest hack: Place boxes of various sizes and shapes across the house. Inside, hide treats for your cat to “hunt.” Going from box to box, playing their own version of hide-and-seek, will keep them occupied for hours.
- Give your cat a treat after playing with a laser pointer
5. Put your money into these cat belongings
You NEED to buy some of these cat things that are sold online or in-store. They honestly are so creative and so helpful!
- Cat Water Fountain HERE. Because cats can’t see still water but can hear running water, purchasing a pet water fountain is your best bet.
6. Basic life hacks to help them
- Keep their food & water separate. It will help them drink more water.
- Try to feed them as much as wet food as possible. Dry food usually causes many health issues for cats unfortunately.
- If they keep coming on your table or a certain furniture, place aluminum foil or masking tape to keep them off.
