Sharjah City Municipality announced their plans to provide employees who are working under the scorching sun, with an invention of hats with built-in fans.
The hats are made from recycled material – the base created using light metal wires covered with sade nets and they do also have reflective signals that are installed in them to make the employee wearing it, visible in the dark at night.
The fan is said to work continuously for up to three hours and can then be recharged. However, the municipality is coming up with ways to help develop a hat that will run on solar energy.
The Assistant Director-General for the Institutional Support Sector at the municipality, Dr Abdullah Ali Al Qaidi, explained their idea of the hat and how it was adopted as a method to preserve the environment and optimise the use of available resources. He also revealed that the municipality has already produced around 50 hats ready to be sent out.
This is a great initiative taken by the municipality to ensure the safety of outdoor employees and one of the many ways to protect them from heat exhaustion, others include, holding workshops and awareness sessions with the employees, providing them with all the necessary protective equipment needed as well as distributing cold drinks, and last but not least, banning to work at noon.
