Coming to our third Ramadan during the pandemic, today’s COVID-19 briefing by NCEMA announced newly eased regulations that will be followed during the Holy Month of Ramadan this year and bring some normality to our lives!
The current one-meter physical distancing between individuals mosques will still need to be followed and NCEMA also mentioned that the Tahajjud prayers will be held during the last ten days of Ramadan, which would last 45 minutes

Here are all the major updates for Ramadan 2022:
- Reopening of ladies prayer rooms.
- Daily lessons and lectures held in mosques can resume after Asr or Isha prayers during the holy month.
- Volunteers must be present in mosques and women’s prayer halls to monitor worshippers’ adherence to precautionary measures, such as wearing face masks and using one’s own prayer mat or disposable prayer mat.
- Distribution of water bottles will be allowed.
- The Holy Book of Quran would be redistributed to mosques and need to be sterilized after use.
The protocol also notes amending the alignment of worshipers to be in a straight (vertical) shape instead of a zigzag shape, in order to facilitate the entry and exit process and for the sake of organization.
Wearing masks will still be compulsory.
