Last year, the House of Wisdom was built, inspired by the original one in Baghdad, and now is a place that everyone talks about. Usually, when we think of libraries, we just think of some boring, old, and quiet building with books and no fun. However, the House of Wisdom showed us that not all libraries are like that! The way they designed the whole place makes us all drawn to it, like have you ever seen so many people wanting to go to a library?? That’s just how amazing it is.

Not only does it not feel like a library, but it also doesn’t even look like one! It truly is Sharjah’s new iconic cultural hub. They created such a beautiful open space welcome to everyone in hopes to promote reading and allowing easy access to knowledge! They also hope to “become a progressive society that are the catalysts of harmonious coexistence.” -House of Wisdom
It’s a place that truly makes you feel like you can get work done. You aren’t just looking at boring closed walls while the librarian tells you to be quiet if you ask for a pen. It’s a place that makes you feel like you can be productive and relaxed when you feel drained. It’s honestly perfect for students and even for the elders! A home away from home.

The beautiful architecture
The crazy interior and exterior of the building are just wow. It catches everyone’s eye and grabs their attention! It is designed by Foster + Partners and extends over 12,000 square meters.
It’s a two-story structure with a large floating roof cantilevering on all sides of a transparent rectilinear volume. The 15-meter-wide overhang provides shade to the façades for most of the day, while aluminum screens filter the low sun in the evenings. They really put thought into this considering the hot summer weather we constantly have to go through every day 😠.
Every room, every space, and every angle has been meticulously planned out like rhyming verses in a beautiful poetry. This well-designed center serves as a blueprint for future libraries that combine conventional and digital sources of information, interactive learning, and modern education.
All past generations must be punching the air right now wishing they had something like this back in the day! We’re honestly lucky, people finally realizing what we need right now and what we’re attracted to the most.

As shown in the video, House of Wisdom, bustling with activity, houses a 105,000-book library with indoor and outdoor reading facilities. It contains seven specially built meeting and discussion pods for students and entrepreneurs.
The Al Jazri lab is a digital fabrication lab where creators and innovators can easily create and innovate using cutting-edge technology and tools. How much better can this place get!!

With its rentable multipurpose spaces such as Al Rasheed Hall, Al Ma’moun Exhibition, and Al Khawarizmi Exhibition, House of Wisdom is also fully equipped to serve a wide spectrum of enterprises and professionals for conferences, events, and exhibits.
You can also book some small meetings room for group study sessions, just make sure to book in advance!
They’ve also made it a place convenient and welcoming for kids! So if you feel like working but can’t leave your kid or little siblings alone at home just bring them to house of wisdom! The Little Reader is a dedicated space for children to learn and be entertained in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Plus, if you’re feeling hungry and want to munch on something, they’ve got delicious cafes just for you available in the building! You can even get a cup of coffee to help keep you alert while working! They really thought about all our needs and wants. It’s amazing!
Finally, House of Wisdom is just not a library, it is set to be a destination for conferences, events, extracurricular activities, and instructional sessions for people of all ages. It way more than home, it is something that we all never knew we needed. So when you tell your parents you’re going to the “library” we bet it’ll actually be the truth this time!
Their opening hours are from 10am-10pm Sunday to Saturday!
