Filming someone you know brings choices about whose story you tell and how you tell it. A free course with Mahmoud Kaabour will explore those questions at The Flying Saucer in Dasman, Sharjah, on 7–8 November 2026.

What the course covers

Sharjah Art Foundation’s Documentary & Representation course looks at consent, authorship and the relationship between a filmmaker and the people being filmed. It gives particular attention to filming family members.

Discussions, viewings and practical exercises will help participants examine how their perspective shapes a story. For anyone planning a documentary about people close to them, this is a chance to think through those choices before filming.

When and how to join

The course runs from 10am to noon on 7 and 8 November. It is in English and open to adults aged 18 and over. Attendance is free, and materials are provided.

Use the foundation’s registration form to apply. It includes the venue map and an option to request disability support. If you can only attend one day, check with the organisers before registering.
