The annual Sharjah Light Festival is back again! This beautiful light festival illuminates all of the city’s landmarks with light and sound installations that project unbelievable images and animations on buildings. Over 500,000 people who come from all over Sharjah, the UAE, and the world attend the festival! Check out it’s 9 locations below!

The Spiral of Light

The Spiral of Light

University City Hall is a Sharjah landmark that exemplifies the emirate’s commitment to education and heritage. It is an appropriate setting for this story, which depicts the wise vision that has laid the groundwork for the last 50 years and the next 50 to come. The ‘past’ sequences depict life in ancient Sharjah, emphasizing the significance of the sea, the library, and the spiral. The ‘present’ depicts the emirate’s most significant achievements in education, art, astronomy, construction, communication, and ecology, which led to the emirate’s current successes. Enlightenment, family, heritage, and culture are held up as the means to success for Sharjah and the UAE over the next 50 years.

The Language of Infinity

Moving back in time, from the future and from infinity…. back to earth, The Language of Infinity merges geometry, calligraphy and arabesque patterns in an homage to Islam, questioning and wondering what can be the future of these Islamic patterns. Traditional motifs such as arabesques, calligraphy and spheres are uncovered as though appearing from shifting sands as viewers are invited to interpret the digital constructions, mathematical designs that make up a harmonious whole reflecting the architectural beauty of the Holy Quran Academy.

A Journey of Legacy

The pragmatic façade of Al Hamriya Area Municipality lends itself to a story told in three parts, where the traditional heritage of the Emirate of Sharjah, encompassing coastal history and the emirate’s economic growth over the last 5 decades leads into scenes of Sharjah’s present prosperity and success followed by elemental displays of the next 50 years. A Journey of Legacy decorates the structural columns of the building with a blend of visually dramatic polychromatic bursts of colour, geometric flowers and futuristic forms to bring focus to the marvelous achievements and engaging future of Sharjah.

Islam + Architecture + Heritage

Celebrating Heritage and Legacy, Progress of a Nation and Harmony as components of the emirate’s past, present and future, this evocative show on the Rashid bin Ahmed Al Qassimi Mosque in Dibba Al Hisn, uses traditional and contemporary elements to highlight the originality of the building. Overlays of letters, light and glitter shift on the façade, encouraging the viewer to admire the structural form underneath.

SLF Gallery

SLF Gallery light box installation at the Al Majaz Waterfront, displaying iconic illuminated images of the Festival and Sharjah’s stunning landmarks. The sparkling night time waters of the Khalid Lagoon can be glimpsed through the diamond shaped light boxes, reflecting back the eye-catching presentations on the ‘surfaces’ of the installation. The illuminated display highlights and celebrates the people, places and achievements of the past, present and future of Sharjah and the UAE.
