That’s amazing news!
The UAE will host the 28th United Nations Global Climate Conference in 2023, following a decision by the body in Glasgow on Thursday night to accept the Emirates’ bid to host the talks.
If you’re wondering what really is COP – it’s basically the United Nation bringing together almost all the countries on earth to attend global climate summits called COPs which stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’. The number 28 after ‘Cop’ means it will be the 28th annual summit hence why naming it ‘Cop28’
A parliamentary session meeting of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change approved a motion for the meeting to begin on November 6, 2023, in the UAE, under the dates and locations of future sessions.
“There being no objections, it is decided,” declared Cop26 president Alok Sharma.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted shortly after the announcement that the UAE would do everything possible to ensure the success of Cop28.
