Time to invest in some evironment-friendly bags!
Sharjah has announced a ban on single-use plastic bags and materials beginning January 1, 2024. However, starting October 1st, sales outlets in the emirate will be charging consumers 25 fils for each single-use plastic bag requested in order to prepare them for the change.
From January 1, 2024, it will be illegal in Sharjah to trade, manufacture, offer, or import single-use plastic bags and materials. However, environmentally friendly alternatives and multi-use bags will be given to shoppers.
This decision seeks to safeguard the environment against the dangers of plastic pollution. It will promote a sustainable culture among residents by reducing the use of single-use bags until they are completely prohibited.
Stores also need to inform customers about the 25-fil tariff, raise their awareness about the reasons of this decision, and advise them on how to use alternatives. Stores are also required to reduce their use of these bags.
