To commemorate National Environment Day, the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah (EPAA) has organized an initiative in City Centre Al Zahia under the slogan ‘Climate Action Now.’
The campaign kicked off on Friday with a beach clean-up in Khorfakkan, followed by activities and events to spread awareness, environmental programs, exhibitions, educational workshops, and lectures that will happen over the next week.
Sharjah encourages residents to actively participate in environmental protection and to support Sharjah in its global efforts to preserve the environment and raise awareness about the need to care for it and improve its resources.
The campaign also tries to develop the concept of air quality, which is defined as how clean or polluted the air is.
Furthermore, it will increase awareness on the importance of mangroves to the UAE, as well as how these trees reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. A number of mangroves will be planted as part of the campaign at Al Qurm in Kalba.
Through scientific studies and research, the EPAA aims to protect the environment, natural reserves, wildlife, and biodiversity. The authority publishes educational awareness material, implements environmental awareness policies and programs, and launches specialized environmental awareness and education campaigns.
