Woohoo!!
The Al Dhaid Fort in Sharjah is part of a larger project that will include a variety of facilities to improve the historical and tourism infrastructure.
HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has officially opened Al Dhaid Fort in Sharjah which is located 60 kilometers east of Sharjah city on a desert plain at the foothills of the Hajar Mountains.
Al Dhaid Fort’s history goes all the way back to the second half of the 18th century; it is the region’s oldest historical landmark and precedes the formation of the city of Al Dhaid. The square-shaped fort is 32 meters long and 26 meters wide, and it has played an influential political role in the past, hosting meetings that brought together Sheikhs from around the region, as well as delegates from neighboring countries. Several rooms have been transformed into exhibition halls, with a collection of historical artifacts from Al Dhaid and its rich heritage on display.
A hall within the fort houses essential documents related to the Al Dhaid region – and specifically the Fort – originating from notable historic sources such as the British Archives, as well as local writings that mention Al Dhaid and recount geographical and political facts, as well as social events that occurred in the region.
The fort is intended to serve as the focal point of a new heritage district in the city, which will include a public square, the restoration of a mosque, and the construction of a folklore market and majlis.
It’s a super cool historic event that you have to visit ASAP! For the past 5 days it has been displaying beautiful light shows and performances to mark the opening of its fort!
