Twitter Pauses Its Paid Verification Plan After Fake Accounts Impersonating Public Figures Go Viral

Twitter or let’s be clear, Elon Musk’s Twitter rolled out a paid subscription for verified accounts on the platform and as no one, let alone Elon Musk would have imagined, imposters came into action and created fake accounts posing as famous public figures and companies! Well, here are a few of them:

From Apple TV to Coca-Cola and Pepsi, things just didn’t stop there! We even had George W Bush and Tony Blair!

American pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly (LLY) lost billions after the stock plunged because a fake account, verified with a blue tick, claimed: “insulin is free now.”

Twitter has now paused the paid subscription service and is working towards a smoother process to carry out the step!
