The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has chosen the first two Emiratis, Abdallah AlHammadi and Saleh AlAmeri, to participate in a mission that will train humanity for future exploration of Mars and other planets. Scroll down to read more about this wonderful news!
UAE Analog Mission#1 is part of the Scientific International Research in Unique Terrestrial Station (SIRIUS) SIRIUS 20/21 that will be conducted at the NEK ground-based analogue facility in Moscow. Abdallah AlHammadi and Saleh AlAmeri, who were chosen from 172 applications, have already started their training for it.
“We are entering a new era of space exploration in the UAE, and we are proud to have Abdallah AlHammadi and Saleh AlAmeri join our team at MBRSC to further our pursuit in this field. Through the futuristic vision of our leadership, we have achieved significant milestones in the space sector, and we will continue to invest in projects that are critical for advancing our knowledge-based economy. The UAE’s participation in the analog mission also reaffirms and continues our rich legacy of collaborative efforts that will help benefit humankind and ensure the sustained growth of the global space economy.” Yousuf Hamad AlShaibani, Director-General, MBRSC said.
To help prepare for long-duration space exploration, the mission will investigate the effects of isolation and confinement on human psychology, physiology, and team dynamics. It is a mission to help keep astronauts safe and healthy during the long duration flight.
Both of the selected candidates have great and experienced backgrounds with this field of work. Abdallah AlHammadi has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Abu Dhabi University and a foundation degree in aerospace engineering from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has served in the UAE Armed Forces for 17 years and is currently the Maintenance Department Crew Chief (first and second line).
While Saleh AlAmeri graduated from Khalifa University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and is a Mobius Institute certified vibration analyst. AlAmeri is currently employed with ADNOC as a mechanical engineer. He has over six years of expertise in his area. AlAmeri’s team placed second in the Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge 2015, building the first solar automobile of its sort in the Arab world with a range of 1,200 kilometers.
In preparation for the SIRIUS 20/21 mission, the analog astronauts are presently completing in-house training, which includes training on the experiments suggested by principle scientists from local colleges as well as Russian language training. The main goal of the SIRIUS series is to learn about the consequences of isolation and confinement on the human body. The analog mission is also part of NASA’s Human Research Program’s space exploration agenda.
Crew-members are segregated and given specific tasks as part of the mission, which they must complete without communication with the outside world. The mission replicates the launch, orbit, landing, and return stages and scenarios of a manned journey to Mars. The SIRIUS program includes a multi-cultural crew that may be able to carry out long-term journeys to Mars or other space exploration missions. Such missions are critical for acquiring a full understanding of how humans react physically when alone and the effects of isolation on people in enclosed spaces.
Such great news for UAE residents, we honestly wish them the best and can’t wait to see more of what they’re going to accomplish!
Sending lots of love and support!
