There is no doubt UAE has no shortage of talented people specializing in various mediums so, we thought to kick off our very first feature in a new segment called “Local Talents in Spotlight”, we would shine a spotlight on a very special race driver who has taken on the challenge to compete in a very male-dominated field whilst showcasing the true strength of a woman, Amna Al Qubaisi!
Amna is a 21-year-old Emirati racing driver, born in Virginia, US and is the daughter of Khaled Al Qubaisi, a racing driver himself who made history by being the first Emirati to compete in one of the most challenging races in the world, 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France where Mr Al Qubaisi went on to bag two podiums!
Being the proud daughter of a racing driver, Amna grew up watching motorsports and having drivers over for dinner at her place when her father started racing himself in 2009, It wasn’t until 2014 when she asked her father to start coaching her as she entered into the karting world as a 14-year-old.
This made Amna the first female Arab EVER to race at the Rotax Max Challenge World Finals!
That is when in 2017, she also became the first Arab girl to win the UAE RMC Championship
Guess racing runs in the family genes! Because, along with Amna, her little sister Hamda is also a racing driver and they both went on to compete in the X30 Euro Series in Wackersdorf with Team Driver. Amna brought on another first for the girls by being the only female to reach the final of the championship.
Although many people tried to get in her way and suggested she goes on to try something else, Amna didn’t let those noises faze her and took the opportunity to participate in one of the most prestigious motorsports championships, Formula 4.
She made her first appearance in the 2018 Italian F4 Championship with the championship-winning team, Prema and completed six out of the seven rounds with the team. In 2019, Amna made yet another history when she went on to win her first F4 race in the Italian GP 2019!

In this era and time, watching and hearing women take on a field that men are usually the ones dominating is quite special and empowering and Amna’s journey being the very few woman in the motorsports world is no exception, it is an honour watching her be part of history.
