All You Need to Know About Sharjah Performing Arts Academy

Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is the only dedicated performing arts academy in the whole of Middle East, giving you a safe space to express yourself as the true creative person you are all while still receiving the best globally recognised qualifications!

This is the place where we will be watching some of UAE’s future performers and technicians paving their way into the industry, as they realise the potential they hold as an individual, no matter where they come from.

At the academy, performing arts and performing artists includes all those involved in the collaborative process of making professional performances such as, the actors, musicians, singers, dancers, technicians, stage managers, designers, directors, choreographers, costume makers and lighting designers. Team work make the dream work, surely!

Courses:

Undergraduate programme

This Undergraduate program is a full-time course that usually lasts for four years. These are various degrees they offer:

  • Bachelor of Arts (Acting)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Production Arts)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Musical Theatre)
  • Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance: only course that lasts for three years

Children & Young Performers Programme

This is a great extra-curricular activity for your children if they are aged 4-18, as these classes are held on Saturdays and after school throughout the term. The classes they offer are:

  • Acting
  • Dance
  • Musical Theatre
  • Street Dance & ISTD Tap ( Coming Soon!)

Short Courses

These are for adults and will cover a variety of disciplines in the performing arts, whether its from acting and musical theatre to lighting and scenic design.

‘BTEC International Level 2 Certificate in Performing Arts’ is a course for secondary school students, aged 14-16, which acts as an introductory course to give more insight of what it will be like to have a career in their chosen arts profession. SPAA have everything a performing arts student would possibly want from student lounges and cafes to an extensive reference library to various high-quality equipment to allow them to learn with the best resources. They also have:

  • Acting & Dance Studios
  • Filly-equipped gymnasium
  • Foyer Exhibition Gallery
  • a 432-seat theatre!
  • a 126-seat studio theatre
  • State-of-the-art equipment
  • Recording studios
  • Green-screen TV studios

The academy is an independent, non-profit, co-educational institution of higher educations that aims to provide their students with an opportunity to study, practice, participate in the developing professional performing arts in the region as well as to graduate with confidence, independency and life skills that they will be able to carry with them through their journey.

SPAA is based in University City, Sharjah and are open Sunday-Thursday from 8am-4pm whereas on Saturdays, they are open 9am-1pm.
