Whether you were born here or you immigrated here, Sharjah is home for us all. And although in this pint-sized country, it may seem like there isn’t much to do for fun, we assure you that is not the case.

Bucket List Check!

Hence, this list of “Things to Check Off Your Bucket List in Sharjah”. Every week, our team will be curating some places, activities, or experiences for you to try in Sharjah. Here’s our bucket list of things to do in Sharjah: Souqs. Head on over to these spots to get the best deals and soak in some history:

Central Souq a.k.a Blue Souq

The reason Central Souq is first on the list is because it should be your first choice when exploring traditional parts of Sharjah.

It is an authentic one-stop Middle Eastern shopping spot located at the centre of the Emirate, just a short walk away from the Sharjah Corniche.

This souq is the core of Sharjah’s history which the Ruler of Sharjah, HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi along with British architects from Michael Lyle & Partners designed themselves. It was constructed with the idea of two large buildings, interconnecting using bridges and decorated with blue tiles hence why it’s called ‘Blue Souq’.

Souq Al-Markazi/ Central Souq consists of over 600 shops across the two levels, where you can spot everything from modern products to traditional souvenirs; HIghly recommend taking your family with you.

Souq Al Shanasiyah

Did you know that Souq Al Shanasiyah is named after the merchants who travelled from the state of Shanas to be at this particular souq? Well, neither did we!

It’s now been renovated and has become the most vibrant souqs in the region, where you can shop for the most stylish furniture and homewares, traditional Arabic perfumes and oils and it’s the ideal souq if you are looking to get traditional clothing of the best quality.

We highly recommend not leaving the souq with an empty stomach, give Al Sauroud’s traditional Emirati cuisine a try and let us know your fave dish from them.

Souq Al Arsah

You can walk through Souq Al Arsah’s air-conditioned alleyways, featuring solid wooden doors, beautiful coral brick walls, and hanging lanterns! Just a great location to get an ‘olden times’ vibe by relaxing with a cup of Arabic coffee at the café all while devouring on delicious sweets at the popular halwa shop.

Fun Fact: Souq Al Arsah was once a marketplace for traders from Persian, Indian and Bedouin tribes and a meeting point with their camels.

Souq Al Jubail

Souq Al Jubail is the largest modern, indoor fresh produce market in Sharjah, and it’s the ideal spot to get fish of the best quality!

They deliver as well, which you can order from HERE.

We can feel the culture already!
