Get Ready for the First Arab Spacewalk Tomorrow

The first Arab spacewalk will be performed by Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi outside the International Space Station tomorrow! Spacewalks are used to conduct scientific experiments outside the spacecraft. As part of this great achievement, here are some fun facts about the mission tomorrow and general things about spacewalks!

Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, the first Arab astronaut to perform a long-duration mission, will also be the first to perform the first Arab spacewalk!

Mission Starts at 5:15 PM

The live coverage of the spacewalk will begin at 4:30 PM while the mission will start at 5:15 PM local time.

260 Spacewalks Conducted

260 spacewalks have been conducted since the ISS had been established, with 3 spacewalks conducted this year!

Underwater Practice

Because floating in space is similar to floating in water, astronauts practice their responsibilities underwater in a big swimming pool before embarking on spacewalks. Virtual reality is another tool that astronauts use to prepare for spacewalks.

Spacesuit Weighs 130 KG

Spacesuits weigh approximately 130 kg (280 pounds) on the ground without anyone inside! These spacesuits keep the astronauts safe and provide them with oxygen and water.

First Spacewalk Done in 1965

The first person to go on a spacewalk was Alexei Leonov from the Soviet Union (Russia). It took place on March 18, 1965 and lasted around 10 minutes long.
