“I dreamed of this victory,” Pogačar said after the finish line, “Racing with the best riders in this country, that’s great.”
Tadej Pogacar took yet another historic win with the UAE Team Emirates when he was crowned the Giro Di Lombardia race winner on Saturday in Italy, adding his second monument of the year and a Tour de France trophy to his exceptional 2021 season! 🥳👏🏼
The Olympic Games road race was the Slovenian cyclist’s first race after the Tour de France. He courageously took his Tour form with him to Tokyo, finishing third behind Richard Carapaz and Wout van Aert at the end of the 234 km race, however, he had very mixed results from then on, leaving a very unsure new season ahead of him, later this year.
Pogacar was soon racing again on the Italian roads a few weeks later and finding himself in the front row of Saturday’s ll Lombardia race, where he gained 30 seconds in just 4KM when no one else could keep up the same pace. Eventually, the 23-year-old had Masnada catching up to him, but with Julian Alaphilippe right behind him he had to battle out for P2, letting Pogacar gain a good amount of distance from him, to take his 13th win of the season!
Adam Yates grabbed the final spot on the podium after also having a tough race against Primoz Roglic and the world champion, Julian Alaphilippe.
Congrats to Tadej and UAE!
