A box of old photographs can be the starting point for a new piece of art. Artist Sim Chi Yin will lead a free family-story workshop at Sharjah’s Photography Gallery on 20 November 2026, from 4pm to 7pm.

What you can make

Sharjah Art Foundation’s A Silence That Sits workshop invites participants to build stories from family photographs, documents and other personal materials.

You can work with collage or objects, or try a script, poem or short story. That gives you several ways to explore a family memory, whether you prefer working with images or words.

What to bring and how to register

Bring personal materials you would like to work from. The session is in English and open to people aged 17 and over. It is free, with workshop materials provided.

Apply through the official registration form, which includes a map to the gallery in Al Manakh and an option to request disability support.

For advice on bringing copies or digital files instead of originals, contact [email protected] or 06 568 8800 before your visit.
